Descriptive Entry
Descriptive Entry
This accession consists of the correspondence of the Division of Reptiles and Amphibians, primarily from the late 1970s to 1989, although a few items date back to the 1960s. The correspondence is widely varied. Much of it pertains to the exchange of specimens. There is substantial correspondence between the scientists at the National Museum of Natural History and their colleagues at other institutions. There is also a sizeable amount of correspondence with the general public. The outgoing responses are stapled to incoming letters and filed alphabetically by addressee. Materials include photographs of animals, drawings, drafts of publications and copies of the publications themselves. The letters often contain accounts of the research and field expeditions performed by Smithsonian Institution staff.
