The bulk of these records consist of files dating from 1986 through 1993 that were assembled by Carolyn Kinder Carr, first as Assistant Director for Collections, then as Deputy Director of the National Portrait Gallery (NPG), when she served as co-organizer of the exhibition, "Revisiting the White City: American Art at the 1893 World's Fair." The records include general correspondence files arranged chronologically; lists of loans; and files on fundraising and the exhibition budget, public programs associated with the exhibition, and publicity. The records also contain photographs and slides of the exhibition artwork.
Also included in this accession is a large file on "Court Portraiture in Habsburg Spain: From the Catholic Kings to Philip IV," an exhibition that was planned for the Columbus Quincentenary but was cancelled for lack of funding. Documents in this file date from 1985 to 1990, and consist largely of internal memoranda and correspondence with prospective lenders and organizers.
