This accession consists of records which document planning for and the installation of the following exhibitions: Art, Design and the Modern Corporation: The Collection of the Container Corporation of America; The Martha Jackson Memorial Collection; Patrick Ireland: Drawings, 1965-1985; Close Focus: Prints, Drawings and Photographs; Franz Kline: Photographs by Aaron Siskind; Perpetual Motif: The Art of Man Ray; Supreme Instants: The Photography of Edward Weston; Unknown Territory: Photographs by Ray K. Metzker; Wanderlust; City Life: Photographs of Bruce Davidson; American Traditions in Watercolor: The Worcester Art Museum; The Photography of Invention: American Pictures of the 1980s; Symbols and Ceremonies: Pueblo Indian Watercolors; Treasures from the National Museum of American Art; The Graphic Art of George Elbert Burr (1859-1939); American Art Deco; Art in New Mexico, 1900-1945: Paths to Taos and Santa Fe; Visual Poetry: The Drawings of Joseph Stella; Gene Davis: A Memorial Exhibition; and John LaFarge. The records also document the works of artists Romaine Brooks and Thomas Hart Benton.
Materials include the correspondence, memoranda, and notes of curators Virginia M. Mecklenburg, Merry A. Foresta, and Joann Moser; exhibition proposals, agreements, object checklists, catalogues, brochures, publicity and opening information, scripts, and installation floor plans; information about fellowships, grants, rights and reproductions, loans, special programs, and new acquisitions in Graphic Arts; photographs and slides of artwork; and budget summaries.
