Descriptive Entry
Descriptive Entry
This accession consists of records produced and/or maintained by Harold D. Langley, Curator Emeritus of Naval History in the National Museum of American History, Division of the History of Technology. The records date from when Langley was Curator of that Division, 1995-1996, as well as for the Division of Armed Forces History, 1984-1995, and the Division of Naval History, prior to 1984. The records primarily consist of correspondence pertaining to naval history, maritime artifacts, and flags; subject files; and Ford Foundation grant files which document early funding for a book on the history of the United States flag (begun by Admiral William Rea Furlong and Commodore Byron McCandless) and Langley's eventual involvement in completing the project.
