This accession consists of a translated version of "The Life and Death of My Village," by Celedonio Gutiérrez, c. 1956. The manuscript documents the destruction of Gutiérrez's home by the eruption of the volcano Parícutin in Mexico in 1943. Celedonio Gutiérrez was an assistant to William F. Foshag during his investigations of Parícutin Volcano, 1943-1945. The manuscript was translated by Foshag's wife, Merle Crisler Foshag. Also included are letters between Gutiérrez and Merle Crisler Foshag concerning the translation of the manuscript; drafts of the translation; notes; and other related materials.
