This record unit consists primarily of records created by Kellogg during his tenure as Director of the United States National Museum, 1948-1962. Also included are files kept by Kellogg in his capacity as Assistant Secretary of the Smithsonian Institution, 1958-1962, and Research Associate in Vertebrate Zoology, 1962-1968. Records prior to 1948 were created by Kellogg as Assistant Curator and Curator in the Division of Mammals, USNM. The records are both official and professional in nature and concern Kellogg's research and personal affairs, as well as USNM and Smithsonian business. They include correspondence, 1937-1968, between Kellogg and USNM and Smithsonian staff, professional colleagues and personal acquaintances; and a subject file, 1940-1968.
