The Registrar recorded information about specimens received by the United States National Museum and assigned each unit a control number, which is the accession number for those items which were retained. This record lists the specimens by control number and the name of the curator who was assigned to examine and report on them. The materials document the work of Stephen C. Brown, Registrar, 1880-1919.
