Historical Note
A collection of tools and materials used in Japanese lacquer work was presented to the United States National Museum by the Department of Education of the Japanese Government through Shiro Akabane, Secretary of the Japanese Legation in Washington, D.C. The donation was apparently made between 1885 and 1887.
