Descriptive Entry

This record unit consists primarily of administrative records and includes fiscal records, grant and contract proposals, camera station reports, requisitions and purchase orders, travel records, personnel records, and annual reports.

Historical Note

The Meteorite Photography and Recovery Project, also known as the Prairie Network, was created in 1962 and supported by a grant from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration. The Prairie Network was a system of 16 automatic camera stations organized in the Midwestern United States to acquire orbital and trajectory data on extremely bright meteors. The data was then used to recover any resultant meteorites. Richard E. McCrosky was the scientist in charge of the project from 1962 until its termination in 1975.
