Descriptive Entry
This record unit consists primarily of incoming and outgoing correspondence documenting the operation of the Division of Mineralogy, 1964-1970. Most of the correspondence was conducted by Desautels and White, with lesser amounts by George S. Switzer in his capacity as Chairman of the Department of Mineral Sciences. It concerns the acquisition of collections, identification of specimens, and professional activities of the staff. Also included are records concerning the opening of the Gem and Mineral Hall in the National Museum of Natural History in 1958.
