This record unit consists of incoming and outgoing correspondence and memoranda documenting the operation of the Division of Mineralogy primarily from 1971 to 1989. The correspondence concerns the acquisition of collections, identification of specimens, research and professional activities of the staff, requests for information, and divisional administration.
Most of the correspondence was carried out by Paul E. Desautels, Associate Curator, 1963-1973, and Curator, 1973-1983; John S. White, Jr., Museum Specialist, 1963-1974, Associate Curator, 1974-1984, and Curator, 1984- ; and Pete J. Dunn, Museum Specialist, 1973- . Smaller amounts of correspondence were created by Joel E. Arem, Crystallographer, 1971-1974; Daniel E. Appleman, Crystallographer, 1974- ; and Jeffrey E. Post, Associate Curator, 1984- .
