Historical Note
Historical Note
George Gallenkamp became the first Curator of Education for the National Collection of Fine Arts (NCFA) in 1965. He worked to establish educational programs within the Museum until his resignation in 1966. In 1967, Susan Sollins joined the staff and by 1968 was responsible for parts of the old education agenda with the title of Assistant for Museum Programs. She was named Chief of Museum Programs in 1970. Darrel Sewell replaced Susan Sollins that same year as Associate Curator for Education when the Department of Education was formally established, joining the various programs concerning public education. Sewell served until Peter Bermingham took over as Curator from 1973 until 1978.
