These records consist of correspondence, memoranda, photographs, floor plans, illustrations, and architectural drawings which document the installation of exhibitions at the National Museum of American Art (NMAA) and the Renwick Gallery. Also included are exhibition scripts, catalogues, work orders, and administrative records of the Department of Design and Production.

Historical Note
The Office of Exhibition and Design changed its name to the Department of Design and Production in 1982. David B. Keeler served as Chief from 1973-1985. In 1986 James W. Volkert was appointed Chief and served until 1989. He was succeeded by Val Lewton, who held the position, 1990- .
