Descriptive Entry
Descriptive Entry
These records consist of fairly extensive background materials for each of the WWICS programs reviewed by the Pelikan Committee, including lists of fellows and their topics, publications, seminars and dialogues, and evaluations. Also included are notes, apparently of Prosser Gifford. Although there are letters of evaluation from area scholars, there does not appear to be a copy of the final report of the Committee.
Historical Note
Historical Note
In 1981 James H. Billington, Director of the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars (WWICS), announced the undertaking of a VISITING COMMITTEE review of the international programs of the Wilson Center. The programs evaluated were to include the Latin American Program, the East Asia Program, the International Security Studies Program, and the Kennan Institute for Advanced Russian Studies. The review, which took its name from its Chairman, Professor Jaroslav Pelikan, was administered by Deputy Director Prosser Gifford.
