Descriptive Entry
These records document the involvement of the Office of the Director in exhibition planning at the Museum of History and Technology (MHT) from its creation in 1957 through its development into the National Museum of History in Technology. The Directors for this period were Frank A. Taylor, 1957-1965; John C. Ewers, 1965-1966; Robert P. Multhauf, 1966-1968; and Daniel J. Boorstin, 1969-1973.
The records are chiefly concerned with planning exhibitions for a new Museum of History and Technology and their subsequent installation and modification. They track efforts to choose exhibition items, plan and construct exhibition halls, and prepare the building systems for operation. Records of the Director's dealings with Smithsonian administrators and colleagues are also included.
