In 1971 Peter C. Welsh was appointed director of the newly created Office of Museum Programs (OMP). He was succeeded by Frederick Schmid, who served from December 1971 to 1973, after which the position remained vacant until taken up again by Jane Glaser, 1976- .
The objective of OMP is to serve as a resource for the world museological community.
