Historical Note
In 1971 Peter C. Welsh was appointed director of the newly created Office of Museum Programs (OMP). He was succeeded by Frederick Schmid, who served from December 1971 to 1973, after which the position remained vacant until taken up again by Jane R. Glaser, 1976- .
The objective of OMP is to serve as a resource for the world museological community. The Office sponsors workshops in the United States and abroad intended to train and counsel museum professionals in all aspects of museum work. It also maintains a Museum Reference Center and provides videotape and audio-visual programs for interested users.
