Historical Note
James Chamberlain Crawford (1880-1950) graduated from the University of Nebraska and joined the Bureau of Entomology, United States Department of Agriculture, in 1904. From 1908 to 1917 he served as Assistant (later Associate) Curator, Division of Insects, United States National Museum, specializing in the taxonomy of Hymenoptera. After a time in private business, 1919-1923, Crawford worked for the North Carolina State Department of Agriculture. In 1930 he rejoined the Bureau of Entomology, where he remained until his retirement in 1950.
