This collection consists of Sailer's professional correspondence with colleagues about matters entomological and taxonomic, determinations, and a small quantity of research notes; mingled in these files are letters from some of Sailer's associates and successors, especially Richard Charles Froeschner, Harry Gardner Barber, and Peter Dunning Ashlock. Historical Note

Reece Ivan Sailer (1915- ) attended the University of Kansas, earning his Ph.D. in 1942. In that same year he joined the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Bureau of Entomology and Plant Quarantine. Sailer subsequently held many assignments in the USDA, culminating in 1967, when he became chief of the Insect Identification and Parasite Introduction Branch. His special interests are in the taxonomy of the subfamily heteroptera and the biology of Alaskan biting diptera.
