This collection includes correspondence with Charles Russell Orcutt concerning Cactaceae, 1897; and a typescript for "Landmarks of Botanical History: A Study of Certain Epochs in the Development of the Science of Botany, Part 2, Prior to 1717 A. D.," 695 pages. This typescript is dated 1936 and apparently was typed from the manuscript which Greene was working on at the time of his death in 1915.

Historical Note

Historical Note
Edward L. Greene (1843-1915) was a Professor of Botany at the University of California, 1885-1895, and Catholic University, 1895-1904. He became an Associate in Botany at the Smithsonian in 1904 and retained that title until his death. Greene's work at the Smithsonian was primarily concerned with the history of botany, and he published "Landmarks of Botanical History, Part 1, Prior to 1562, A. D." as part of volume LIV of the Smithsonian Miscellaneous Collections in 1909.
