This collection consists primarily of incoming correspondence documenting Greene's work at the USDA and USNM, as well as his research on Diptera. Most of the letters concern the identification of specimens and the preparation of scientific papers.

Historical Note

Historical Note
Charles Tull Greene (1879-1958), an entomologist, joined the Bureau of Entomology, United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), in 1912 as an Agent in the Section of Forest Entomology. In 1919, he was transferred to the Bureau's taxonomic unit as a Diptera specialist to work under John M. Aldrich on the insect collections in the United States National Museum (USNM). He remained with the USDA until his retirement in 1949. He also served as Honorary Assistant Custodian of Diptera in the Division of Insects, USNM, from 1919 to 1949.
