This collection consists of field notes taken by Buchanan during a collecting trip in Iowa, 1917; an unpublished manuscript on West Indian Apion; and notes, correspondence, and related materials concerning his research on Coleoptera.

Historical Note

Historical Note
Lee L. Buchanan (1893-1958) was an entomologist specializing in Coleoptera taxonomy. From 1917 to 1929 he was Assistant Biologist with the Bureau of Biological Survey, United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). In 1929 he was appointed Entomologist with the Bureau of Entomology and Plant Quarantine, USDA. He remained in the position until his retirement in 1949. Buchanan also served as honorary Specialist for the Casey Collection of Coleoptera, United States National Museum, 1926-1958.
