These papers document Blackman's career at the USDA and consist of incoming and outgoing correspondence concerning the identification of specimens, the control of insects injurious to forests, and his research on Scolytidae.

Historical Note
Maulsby Willett Blackman (1876-1943), an entomologist, received the Ph.D. degree from Harvard University in 1905. From 1907 to 1929, he was on the faculty of the New York State College of Forestry at Syracuse. In 1929, he was appointed Senior Entomologist with the Bureau of Entomology, United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). He remained in the position until his death. Blackman's research specialty was forest entomology, especially the biology and taxonomy of Scolytidae.
