This collection consists of incoming and outgoing correspondence documenting Anderson's research on coleopterous larvae. Most of the letters concern the identification of specimens.

Historical Note

Historical Note
William Henry Anderson (1908-1997), an entomologist, was educated at the University of Maryland where he received the Ph.D. in 1936. That same year he joined the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) as a Field Assistant with the Bureau of Entomology and Plant Quarantine. He was promoted to Assistant Entomologist in 1937, and Entomologist in 1939. In 1960, Anderson was appointed Chief of the Insect Identification and Parasite Introduction Research Branch, USDA. He remained in the position until his retirement in 1967. Anderson was a specialist on the larvae of Coleoptera.
