The papers of Helen M. Duncan document her career with the USGS and her research on fossil Bryozoa. They include incoming and outgoing correspondence with colleagues mostly concerning the identification of specimens; reports on specimens examined; and notes, lists, drafts of papers, and related materials from her research.

Historical Note
Historical Note
Helen M. Duncan (1910-1971) received her B.A. (1934) and M.A. (1937) degrees from the University of Montana. She joined the United States Geological Survey (USGS) in 1942 as an editor, and later worked on a World War II fluorspar project. In 1945 Duncan was appointed Geologist in the Paleontology and Stratigraphy Branch of the USGS. She remained in the position until her death. Duncan specialized in the study of fossil Bryozoa.
