These papers document Wilcomb E. Washburn's professional career, a historian and a teacher of American political and cultural history. He held positions at the National Museum for American History, Division of Political History and later at the Smithsonian Institution, Office of American Studies. Materials include correspondence, appointment books, files concerning Washburn's activities on the American Revolution Bicentennial Commission and research on bicycles, and other papers documenting his professional activities.
