Scope and Contents
The microfilm Albert Alcalay papers contain autobiographical and biographical writings; correspondence; teaching notes and lecture texts; and a scrapbook (1946-1970) containing printed materials about Alcalay's career and photographs of Alcalay and his paintings. Also included are price lists of work by Alcalay (1950s-1978); exhibition catalogs and announcements; and additional printed material.

Albert Alcalay (1917-2008) was an abstract expressionist painter and educator in Boston, Massachusetts. Alcalay was born in Paris to Serbian parents. During WWII, he was in the Yugoslavian army and was imprisoned as a prisoner of war. Once free, he settled in Rome and in 1951 he and his family moved to the United States. He was a 1959 Guggenheim fellow and taught at Harvard University from 1960 until 1982. He exhibited his work in many United States institutions, as well as abroad.
