Biographical / Historical
Lillian Genth (1876-1953) was an impressionist painter in New York City, New York. She is known for her landscape paintings featuring female nudes produced early in her career. Later, Genth focused on paintings inspired by her travels. She exhibited extensively throughout her career and died in New York City in 1953.

Existence and Location of Copies
The collection is available on 35mm microfilm reel 3090 at Archives of American Art offices and through interlibrary loan. Researchers should note that the arrangement of the material described in the container inventory does not reflect the arrangement of the collection on microfilm.
Immediate Source of Acquisition
Mrs. William H. Bender, was a friend of Lillian Genth, executrix of her estate, and collector of Genth's works. She donated Genth's papers to the Archives of American Art in 1976.
Processing Information
The collection received a preliminary level of processing upon receipt and was microfilmed on reel 3909. The collection was processed, and a finding aid prepared by Jayna Josefson in 2022 with support from the Smithsonian American Women's History Initiative.
