Ethel Cutler Freeman (1886-1972) was an amateur Seminole specialist and a research associate with the American Museum of Natural History. Along with her work among the Seminoles of Florida, Freeman conducted studies and wrote papers relating to her field work among the Arapaho, Hopi, Kickapoo, Navaho, Pueblo, Shosoni, and the people of the Virgin Islands, Bahamas and Haiti. Her travel to Africa included study of the music and chants of the Masai, Zulu, and Pygmies. Freeman served on the Hoover Commission's study group for the Bureau of Indian Affairs.
