Scope and Contents
Film document shot in 1979 is a detailed record of Muka, the first stage male initiation ceremony, of the Baruya of eastern highlands of Papua New Guinea. The footage follows a group of nine to twelve year old boys for four weeks ending with the final possum feast. This film record is a follow-up to TOWARDS BARUYA MANHOOD (c. 1974) which documents the second, third, and fourth stages of initiation.
Collection also contains associated texts.
