The collection documents the relationship and interests between Martin and Harrington. Papers include correspondence between Harrington and Martin (mostly Harrington's letters), writings and poetry by Harrington, and reprints and publications by Harrington. Also included is a copy of Encounter with an Angry God, By Carobeth Laird.

Fredericka "Freddie" Imogene Martin (1905-1992) was a nurse and served as administrator of the American medical volunteers during the Spanish Civil War. During World War II she was a nurse with the US Department of the Interior on St. Paul Island in the Bering Sea (Pribilof Islands). There, Martin met John Peabody Harrington, A linguist with the Smithsonian's Bureau of American Ethnology, and the two became lifelong friends.
