The item was found in the John P. Harrington papers when they were processed. Elaine Mills, the editor, turned it over for cataloging in 1991. Margaret Blaker had noted that the document was not in the archives on August 12, 1957. When it was discovered some time afterwards that Harrington had this and another manuscript (2254) photostatically copied, cut apart, and mounted on paper slips, the archives replaced ms 265 with them. Later, when Mills turned over the lost Chinookan manuscripts and they were cataloged and placed in the collection, the photostats were removed and placed with the archives material of questionable value.
