Scope and Contents
The collection consists of 22 plates removed from Stewart Cullin's Korean Games with Notes on the Corresponding Games of China and Japan (1895). The plates are color lithographs of drawings deposited by Mary A. Shufeldt in the University Museum, University of Pennsylvania.
Included are: 1. Court officials in military dress; 2. Korean dancing boy; 3. Hunters on snow shoes; 4. Kite flying; 5. Rope walking; 6. Top spinning; 7. Spade shoveling; 8. See-saw; 9. Swinging; 10. Kicked shuttlecock; 11. Boys playing blind man's bluff; 12. Girls playing blind man's bluff; 13. Girls playing jacks with coins; 14. Bowmaker and archer; 15. Yut [ New Year's game] playing; 16. Dignitaries plying chonggyongdo game; 17. Backgammon; 18. Korean chess; 19. Korean chess; 20. Korean checkers; 21. Dominoes; 22. Gambling.

Custodial History
The original watercolor drawings were collected by Mary A. Shufeldt at Ch'oryang (near Pusan) in 1886. They were published in Stewart Culin's Korean Games with Notes on the Corresponding Games of China and Japan, University of Pennsylvania, 1895.
It is unknown how or when the prints were obtained by USNM or the Department of Anthropology. The prints were transferred from the object collections of the Department of Anthropology to the National Anthropological Archives by Chang-su Houchins in April 1983.
Existence and Location of Originals
The original drawings from which these lithographs were made are held by the University Museum, University of Pennsylvania (cat. 21574).
