Scope and Contents
This collection consists of four photographs of the Messerschmitt Bf 109, and a three-view, general arrangement drawing of a 1930 German bomber. Dr. Krauskopf found these photographs and drawing in April of 1945 at the Luftwaffe Air Base in Kitzingen, Bavaria, Germany. The photographs include: 1) Front right three-quarter view of Messerschmitt Bf 109 on ground, with engine running. This was the first Bf 109 (Werke-Nr.758), and is sometimes called the Bf 109 V-1. Powered by a Rolls-Royce Kestrel engine, it first flew in September of 1935; 2) Right view of the empennage of an early Messerschmitt Bf 109, showing the tailwheel, rudder cables and horizontal tailplane support strut. Photo taken indoors, with the aircraft resting on supports; 3) wing spar assembly of Messerschmitt aircraft resting on indoor workbench; and 4) center section of Messerschmitt. The drawing is labeled Project 149B.
