This collection consists of letters from Virgil Bottom requesting information about the early days of the quartz crystal industry in the United States and letters from "Old Timers" in the industry received by Bottom in response to his request of December 10, 1980; print materials, including a "History of the Quartz Crystal Industry in the United States" by Bottom; photographs; clippings; and two audio tapes.

Biographical/Historical note
Virgil Eldon Bottom was a leading figure in the use of quartz crystal technology for frequency control in radio communication, particularly for use by the military. In early radio quartz was frequently used to help hold the frequency.
