Artist Hanna Lore Galle Hombordy was born on March 13, 1927, in Rahway, New Jersey to German immigrants Fritz Galle and Helen Galle. She completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) degree from the School of Art and Design, Pratt Institute in New York. In December 1950, she married Edward Leonard Hombordy in Hackettstown, Warren, New Jersey. To the union two daughters were born Ann Hombordy and Jane Hombordy.
Throughout her career Hombordy was employed by major American companies and advertising agencies to do design work. She won numerous awards and had solo exhibits in California. From her studio home in Ventura, California she created clay, sculpture and vessels, decorative custom tiles, and house numbers. She published many articles and books including Handmade Tiles: Designing, Decorating (1993), Resist and Masking Techniques (1996), Handbuilt Ceramics: Pinching, Coiling, Extruding, Molding (2000), Creative Ideas for Clay Artists (2001), Surface Decoration: Finishing Techniques (2008), Ceramic Projects: Forming Techniques (2011), and Image and Design Transfer Techniques (2015). Hanna Lore Galle Hombordy died on July 10, 2016, at the age of eighty-nine in Kettering, Ohio.
