Edward L. Heller was born in New Jersey in 1912 and graduated from Harvard Business School in 1939. During World War II, Heller served in the U.S. Army Quarter Master Corps and achieved the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. During his extensive career as an engineer in the field of energy, Heller worked for the U.S. Congress Joint Committee on Atomic Energy, General Atomics, Gulf Oil Corporation, and finally as Assistant Inspector General for the U.S. Department of Energy. Upon retiring from the Department of Energy, Heller was a Smithsonian fellow.
