Axel Wenner-Gren

Axel Wenner-Gren
Axel Wenner-Gren (1881-1961) was a Swedish businessman. He earned his fortune through early adaptation of industrial vacuums for home use. As the majority owner of Electrolux, he was one of the wealthiest men in the world in the 1930's. Wenner-Gren also had an interest in train systems. Another company of his, Alweg, built the original Disneyland Monorail System and he worked to build a railway from Prince George, British Colombia to Alaska. In 1941, Wenner-Gren founded The Viking Fund to support anthropology research. The fund led to the creation of what is now called the Wenner-Gren Laboratory at the University of Kentucky.
