This collection contains 132 photographs shot by Anna M. Schein depicting three tree-planting ceremonies of Chief Jake Swamp (Mohawk), 1992-1996. Chief Swamp was the founder of the Tree of Peace Society, an international organization promoting peace and conservation.
Series 1: New York State Historical Association, Cooperstown, New York, July 8, 1995. Series 2: Syracuse University, New York, April 21, 1996. Series 3: West Virginia University, Morgantown, West Virginia, 1992 and 1996.
The collection contains detailed image lists and information about the tree planting ceremonies.

Chief Jake Swamp (Tekaronianeken) was a founder of the Tree of Peace Society, an international organization promoting peace and conservation. Chief Swamp delivered the Thanksgiving Address throughout the world, as well as at the United Nations. He was born on the Akwesasne Mohawk Reservation in upstate New York, and lived in Hogansburg, NY where he worked as a cultural adviser for the Mohawk Council of Akwesasne's Child and Family Services. Giving Thanks: A Native American Good Morning Message was his first picture book. He passed away in October 2010. (Biography from Bookshop.org)
Anna M. Schein has worked at the West Virginia University in various capacities including Head of Serials Department, Charles C. Wise, Jr. Library and the Associate Curator for Printed Ephemera and University Librarian Emerita.
