In 1933, Wiley Post became the first man to fly solo around the world, making the trip in 7 days, 18 hours, and 49 minutes. Lieutenant J. F. Gillon "voluntarily assisted many of the prominent fliers in plotting their courses." After his successful flight, Post returned the map section to Gillon the as a memento.
