The Russian Aeronautical Collection is a mix of technical, historical, and cultural reference materials, including originals or copies of articles, documents and other historical materials relating to Russian and Soviet aviation from the Tsarist period through the Soviet era. This 12 1/2 by 9 1/2 inch black-paged photograph album, with captions in Russian, comes from the estate of Alexander de Seversky. It contains aerial photographs, images of the Russian officers and sailors, hangars and shipyards, and various float planes, some equipped with pontoons for use on ice. Aircraft seen in the photographs include the Sikorsky S-10 Hydro, Sikorsky S-5A, Sikorsky Il'ya Muromets on floats, Grigorovich pusher seaplane, Franco-British Aviation Co. Ltd. FBA Model C, and Maurice Farman M.F.11.

This collection contains one of Kress' German patents, patent number 8706, for one of his flying machine models; a letter from 1883, in German, signed by Kress; and a description, in English, of the flying machine written by Arnold Samuelson (who lists his title as "Chief Engineer").

This collection contains two scrapbooks and the personal papers of Dr. Paul Studenski, an early aviator who flew from 1910-1913. Born in St. Petersburg, Studenski studied law and medicine before earning the 292nd license from L'Aero Club de France. He immigrated to the United States in 1911 and exercised his prodigious flying skills as instructor, test pilot and exhibition pilot before retiring from flying to distinguish himself in the fields of economics and government service.
