These records document the governance and programmatic activities of the Museum of the American Indian/Heye Foundation (MAI) from its inception in 1904 until its sublimation by the Smithsonian Institution in 1990. The types of materials present in this collection include personal and institutional correspondence, individual subject files, minutes and annual reports, financial ledgers, legal records, expedition field notes, research notes, catalog and object lists, publications, clippings, flyers, maps, photographs, negatives and audio-visual materials. These materials span a varied range of subjects relating to the activities of the museum which are more fully described on the series level.
W.G. Constable papers
bulk 1920-1976
The papers of art historian and museum curator W.G. (William George) Constable measure 25.7 linear feet and date from 1905 to 1981, with the bulk of the material from 1920 to 1976. The papers include biographical material; professional and personal correspondence; extensive lectures, writings, and notes; exhibition and book research files; printed materials; and photographs, glass plate negatives, and slides. There is substantive correspondence related to Constable's participation in the American Defense Harvard Group and about the formation of the Roberts Commission, including correspondence with Ralph Perry, Hugh Hencken, Paul Sachs and George L. Stout. There are numerous official reports prepared by Constable after World War II for the U. S. Office of Military Government for Germany.
Young Productions videotape collection
This collection contains 7 Betacam videocassettes depicting the Museum of the American Indian (MAI) in New York City. The tapes were produced by JoAnn Young of Young Productions in New Jersey, circa 1984-1985, for a television series called, Only One New York on WNYC-TV.

These records consist entirely of newspaper clippings concerning the Smithsonian Institution. Arrangement generally follows an alphabetic file plan. Clippings concerning the Sea-Link submarine disaster, the Smithson Bicentennial, and, in recent years, the Festival of American Folklife, were kept separately, but have been combined here with the main body of clippings …

Organizational records are also found for the Earthscore Foundation, Earth Environmental Group, the Gaia Institute, and the Raindance Corporation, among others.
