Clyde E. Learned Papers
Clyde E. Learned (1885-?) was the senior highway engineer for the U.S. Bureau of Public Roads, District Three, during the years 1919-1939. He was later a design engineer for the Public Roads Administration, Division Nine, in 1949.

This donation consists of one 8" x 40" black and white candid panoramic image inscribed with the following caption "Mail Plane leaving Hampton Roads, VA for Washington, DC. Feb. 1919." The photograph was taken by Rell Clements, Jr., who was a photographer based in Washington, DC.
D. Ward King Road Grader Collection
Photographs, publications and correspondence related to D. Ward King's invention the King Road Drag, or the Split-Oak drag, which improved rural travel in the early 20th century by introducing a simple design and low-effort system for grading poor-quality roads. The King Road Drag was promoted heavily across the United States and Canada via the "Good Roads Campaign" originally sponsored by the railroad companies in the early decades of the twentieth century.
