Ethiopia Photograph Album
This collection includes one photographic album containing 269 silver gelatin black and white prints (12 x 16 cm.) and dates from 1936-1941. The photographs were taken in northern Ethiopia, and possibly Somalia. The images highlight peoples including the Danakil and Afar, dress, adornments, coiffures, churches, and historical residence, among other subjects.

The collection includes photographs taken by Aylette Jenness in northern Nigeria between 1967 and 1969. They document daily life in a remote part of Yauri Emerite, focusing on the townspeople of Yelwa and those in its environs.
Donald Heldman photographs
Photographs taken by Dr. Donald P. Heldman of Gambela (Ethiopia) and surrounding neighborhoods. Images primarily depict a port on the Baro River, Etang Village, and Annuak people fishing, canoeing, smoking, bathing, and carrying food and wood.
Madagascar photographs
Photographs of Madagascar in the early French colonial period and Merina Kingdom in Central Madagascar, ca. 1887-1900. Portrait images include Queen Ranavalona III (exiled to Algiers in 1897), her husband, the Prime Minister, and other royals. There are images are of Malagasy women from other parts of the island.
Robert and Barbara Pringle photographs

The collection contains 2136 color 35mm slides and 829 color 35mm negatives taken by Robert Pringle, former Ambassador to Mali, between 1980-1989. The images were taken in Mali, Burkina Faso and Kenya, and depict masquerades, vernacular architecture (including Dogon doors and granaries), mosques, marketplace scenes, pottery, masks (including plank and leaf masks), weaving, art in situ, animals and landscapes. Culture groups represented in the collection include the Tuareg, Lobi, Maasai, Mossi, Dogon, Fula and Bobo (Bwa) peoples. Ambassador Pringle traveled with photographer Christopher Roy and some of Pringle's images depict Roy at work with his own camera.
