The collection dates from circa 1981 to 2018 and consists of photographic prints, negatives, posters, art prints, DVDs and printed and manuscript materials. Photographs depict architecture, agricultural work, beadwork, weaving, village scenes, artists, artists at work, artworks, markets, celebrations, scenic views, animals, churches and mosques. Most depict Kunama or Saho peoples, particularly women and children. LaDuke also regularly photographed war zones during the Border War, especially those in Nakfa and Gelebe, portraying Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps. Locations include villages in Ethiopia and Eritrea, particularly Senafe, Nakfa and Massawa, as well as Border War zones various battlefields and camps for internally displaced persons.

This collection contains one framed map of Abyssinia circa 1784, measuring 25.5 x 21.5 inches, by cartographer and engraver Emanuel Bowen, and three 8 x 10 inch photographs depicting Ethiopian artist Afewerk Tekle (1971), Patriarch 'Abuna Tewoflos (1964) and Emperor Haile Selassie I (1967) respectively. Each photograph bears the signature of its subject. The photograph of 'Abuna Tewoflos was taken by Selassie's court photographer, Torkam "Tony" Boyadjian. Selassie's portrait is an official presentation photograph, with a green leather frame adorned with the emperor's coat of arms in gold, signed and dated by Selassie.

This collection contains 369 African postage stamps from the post-independence period (circa 1960s-1970s). The stamps depict African leaders, traditional African art and artists, cultural performances, flora and fauna, and prominent visitors to the continent, including Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Pope Paul VI. A majority of the stamps come from Ghana, Togo, Nigeria and Cote d'Ivoire. Other countries represented include Gabon, Mali, Cameroon, Tunisia, Zambia, Morocco, Dahomey (now Benin), Libya, Gambia, Somalia, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Ethiopia, Zaire (formerly the Belgian Congo and now the Democratic Republic of the Congo), Upper Volta (now Burkina-Faso), Mauritius, South Africa, Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe), Uganda, Egypt, Sudan and the Comoros.
