The papers in the Abbott collection appear to have been brought together in the Smithsonian's Department of Anthropology in order to process ethnological specimens from Malaya and Indonesia and to prepare an exhibit and publications. Included are some of Abbott's original letters, notes, maps, and a considerable number of photographs. Most of these materials concern the Enggano, Jakun, and Dyak. Many other documents in the collection consist of copies of or extracts from Abbott's letters, the originals of which are now in the Smithsonian Institution Archives. There are also letters and other materials of Otis Tufton Mason and Walter Hough accumulated as they worked on the collection, many simple lists of accessions compiled in the Department of Anthropology, and a few manuscripts. In addition, there are printed materials that were apparently used by the department's staff for reference purposes. Some of the photographs made in Borneo in 1914 are by Henry Cushier Raven, a field assistant of Abbott and, later, a collector financed by Abbott. Additional materials of Abbott and Raven are in the Smithsonian Institution Archives, and their material (often duplicate photographs) are included in several collections in the National Anthropological Archives.

Linda Klug Papers
These papers relate to the professional and personal life of Linda M. Klug. The bulk of this collection relates to Klug's work in the Philippines with the Samal culture. The collection mainly reflects Klug's interests in linguistics and childhood behavior. The collection also pertains to Klug's interests in a wide variety of topics including, but not limited to: ethnomusicology, marriage and religious practices, kinship units, economic and ecological factors, and gastronomy. Included in the collection are field notes, linguistic materials, research notes, her PhD dissertation, compositions, correspondence, card files, maps, photographs, slides, a journal, expense accounts, grant applications, scripts and other documents that cover a period from the mid -1960's to the mid-1980's.
Everett Edward Thompson Lantern Slides
The papers, 1899-1962, of editor, lexicographer, author, and lecturer Everett Edward Thompson (1876-1962) primarily document his 1905 trip to Indonesia and subsequent lectures delivered from 1913-1919 and 1956. Portions of the papers are photocopies. Included are obituaries; a portrait photograph dated 1899; portions of a travel journal; announcements, notes, and 132 glass stereopticons assembled in preparation for lectures on Indonesia; a letter; printed material and clippings related to language and the Webster-Merriam dictionaries; and a handwritten copy of Irene Kuhn's 1961 news article on the early history of U.S. field teaching in the Philippines.
