This accession consists of materials documenting the professional career of George E. Watson. Included are records concerning his work as Curator, National Museum of Natural History, Division of Birds; his ornithological research; and his professional activities.
Exhibition Records
These records consist of Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service (SITES) exhibition files, arranged by exhibition. The files contain varying amounts of information, including itineraries, shipping and insurance papers, press releases, lists of items, correspondence with lenders, and occasional photographs.
Records
These records document the public relations aspects of traveling exhibitions created by the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service (SITES). They include press releases, clippings, photographs, and other publicity materials. One scrapbook contains clippings about early shows, 1955-1956. Researchers should also consult Record Units 90, 290, 316, 487, and 488 for additional documentation of SITES exhibitions.
