The selected records of the National Endowment for the Arts, Visual Arts Program measure 15.5 linear feet and date from 1969 to 1989. The records contain supporting documentation for grant applications awarded and final reports submitted to the NEA's Visual Arts Program in the categories of: Workshops (1972-1976), Workshops/Alternative Spaces (1976-1979), Artists' Spaces (1980-1982), and Visual Artists Organizations (1983-ca.1987). Included are a variety of materials, such as slides, photographs, sound and video recordings, letters, resumes, newsletters, financial reports, operational procedures, and printed materials. After circa 1990, the NEA began returning supporting documentation to the applicants, hence, no records from the 1990s are included, although grants were awarded in the Visual Artists Organizations category until 1995.

The papers of curator Nan Rosenthal measure 26.6 linear feet and 17.1 gigabytes and date from circa 1940-2013. There is a small amount of biographical material; correspondence, mostly letters from her first husband Otto Piene; project and research files encompassing her work as a curator and historian; as well as teaching files; and thousands of slides organized by subject. Among Rosenthal's research and project files are sound recordings and transcripts from dozens of interviews Rosenthal conducted with artists including Howard Hodgkin, Anselm Kiefer, friends and family of Yves Klein, Robert Rauschenberg and friends, George Rickey, Claus Oldenburg, and Sangbin Im. In addition to paper records, the collection also includes a large number of sound recordings, video recordings, and born digital material.

The papers of New York City and New Mexico based postminimalist artist Richard Tuttle date from circa 1935-2018. The collection measures 26.6 linear feet and 4.14 GB. The evolution of Tuttle's art practice is well documented through biographical material; paper correspondence and email; writings and over 200 richly illustrated notebooks; exhibition and gallery files; residency and visiting artist files; book projects and print edition files; personal business records; printed material; photographic material; and sketches. The illustrated notebooks comprise a significant bulk of the collection and document Tuttle's visual explorations, travel, language studies, and inner life over six decades. Paper correspondence, particularly Tuttle's frequent letters to his parents over four decades, communicate personal and professional developments in detail. Other notable collection material includes biographical items documenting Tuttle's childhood, high school, and college life, as well as limited edition and one of a kind artist books. The collection contains born-digital material, consisting of emails, writings, images of artwork and installations, a presentation, and video recording.
