Signal Corps Photographs
This collection contains two groups of photographs. The first group, mounted on pages removed from a photo album, contains views of aircraft and facilities at the United States Army Air Service Fairfield Intermediate Air Depot, Fairfield, Ohio, circa 1921. The second group consists of loose photographs of aircraft, most of which are historic views of early Aerial Experiment Association and Curtiss Aeroplane and Motor Company aircraft by photographer Harry M. Benner.
1928 National Air Races Panoramic Photograph
The 1928 National Air Races were held at Mines Field, Los Angeles, California from September 8 to 16 and included numerous events for both military and civilian pilots. This collection consists of a black and white panoramic photograph of sixty-five of the pilots who participated in the 1928 National Air Races.
Jesse L. Brown Photographs
Jesse L. Brown (1926-1950) was the first African-American US Navy pilot. This collection consists of twenty-two snapshots taken by Phillip Jones, many of which include images of his friend Jesse L. Brown, as well as friends John Brannon, Sam Clauzel, and Rex Vannoy, during their US Navy flight training at Pensacola, Florida.
National Air and Space Museum Technical Reference Files: Aircraft
The Technical Reference Files comprise an artificial collection that currently contains 1,900 cubic feet of aviation and space related materials, organized in 22 subject series. File materials include photographs, press releases, clippings, correspondence, reports, and brochures, on individuals, organizations, events, and objects.
Bellcomm, Inc Technical Library Collection
This collection contains the non-book portion of Bellcomm's Technical Library. The material in the collection consists of technical reports prepared by NASA subcontractors and/or NASA facilities during the first decade of space exploration (1960-1970). The collections also includes some reports issued by the California Institute of Technology's Jet Propulsion Lab (JPL) at Pasadena, CA, including Space Program and Research Summaries, as well as technical and engineering documents.
Waco Aircraft Company records
This collection consists of the records of the Waco Aircraft Company. The material includes office files of the company, marketing and sales information, and design data. Also included are original engineering drawings and report files.
Hans Groenhoff Photographic Collection
Hans Groenhoff (1906-1985) was a celebrated American aviation photographer from the 1930s through the 1960s, also working as a pilot, journalist, editor, correspondent, and—in his retirement years—as an aviation tourism publicist for the Bahamas. This collection of 25,550 images consists of Groenhoff's collection of negatives and transparencies, spanning his career from 1933 to 1975.
R. E. G. (Ron) Davies Air Transport Collection
1847 to 2011
R. E. G. (Ron) Davies (1921 -2011) was an English airline historian, who worked in airline marketing research before joining the National Air and Space Museum in 1981. He served as a curator until his retirement in 2011. This reference collection was compiled by Davies during his career and consists of historical data and materials—including photographs, timetables, and memorabilia—from the airlines of the world.
A. Scott Crossfield Papers
This collection consists of over nine cubic feet of material documenting Scott Crossfield's aviation career, with emphasis on his involvement with the North American X-15. The following types of material are included: correspondence; reel to reel tapes; papers, manuscripts; newspaper and magazine clippings; aviation manuals; photographs; film; and Crossfield's notes and reports.
