The collection is the result of research conducted by Dr. Alixa Naff relating to the study of the early Arab immigrant experience in the United States from about 1880-World War II. The study began with oral history interviews in 1962 and became a major project in 1980 with a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities. It documents the assimilation of Arabic speaking immigrants in the United States.

These records document the planning, organizing, and promotion of an exhibition exploring the triumphs and struggles of Latinx migrants and immigrants in four urban areas: Washington, DC, Baltimore, MD, Raleigh-Durham, NC, and Charlotte, NC. The exhibition was organized and held at the Anacostia Community Museum from December 5, 2016 – January 7, 2018, and traveled to the Carlos Rosario International Public Charter School in Washington, DC, from October 2018 to Spring 2019.
